In early June I attended the Grinnell library summer kick-off. I met Jody, a retired grandmother who grew up in Brooklyn Iowa, and now lives in Grinnell’s retirement home community. Her grandson was visiting from Omaha for the week-end so she brought him to the kick-off event.
She told me that she’s a big fan of Grinnell. Grinnell provides opportunities for religious, cultural, creative, and artistic activities that she didn’t have as a child. And she’s excited about the future of Grinnell, especially initiatives to promote local food systems like Grinnell Farm To Table.
Jody also told me her thoughts on the new administration. While she doesn’t agree with everything the president is doing, or the way he acts, she thinks he is a hard worker. She was especially frustrated by the fact that she feels like mainstream news media does little to report on the positive things he does. She thinks he should receive more support and that those who complain about him should do something rather than just complain about him.
